IN MEMORIAM
It is with deep regret that the department announces the passing of Midway Fire District Division Chief-Fire Marshal/Chief of Department (retired) Roy Isakson. Chief Isakson was Escambia County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Curt Isakson’s father, mentor and best friend. Chief Isakson was a United States Air Force veteran with over 25 years of service and served in the Vietnam War.
Chief Isakson was a Santa Rosa County fire service icon for 38 years, having served as the Midway fire chief in both the 1970s and again in the 1990s. Upon his retirement from Sears & Roebuck, Chief Isakson returned to the Midway Fire District to voluntarily serve as the district’s Fire Marshal/Fire Inspector. He continued to work in that capacity right up to the time he became ill.
In addition to his service in Santa Rosa County, Chief Isakson had a profound impact on many Escambia County firefighters through the generous opening of his waterfront home for parties on the major holidays and more recently by working as the logistician and facilitator for his son’s numerous fire training conferences.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, 10/16/2016 from 1400 to 1600 hours at the Rose Lawn Funeral Home, 2942 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze (Midway), FL 32563. The Fire Department Level 2 (non-line of duty death) funeral service will be held Monday, October 17, 2016 at 1130 hours at the Coastline Calvary Chapel, 1122 Oriole Beach Road, Gulf Breeze (Midway), FL 32563 followed by the military honors burial at Saint John’s Cemetery, 301 North “G” Street, Pensacola, FL 32501. The department requests all members wear their Class “A” uniform, as a sign of respect for the family.

He lived a full life of loving others and always paying it forward with Over 20 years in the Air Force and over 35 years with the Midway Fire Department. He was a  Division Chief and went home sick on March 11 of this year, was transported to the hospital on March 13 and was diagnosed with cancer that week. He put up one hell of a fight for nearly seven months. During that seven months he continued to stop in at the firehouse. He taught me so much that its not comprehendible. He taught through his daily living. I loved him with all my heart and will dearly miss him. He fought and gave us all six months that we will always cherish on top of all the other great years. He passed in his sleep and now the pain is gone. Thanks to all the Brothers at Midway Fire for the visits and the other family & friends that called, visited, and prayed for him. The prayers were answered. I Love my Dad.

Visitation, Funeral & a celebration of his life is tentatively planned for next Saturday & Sunday. All Fire Service personnel encouraged to wear class A uniform. He served this great country for 20 years in the Air Force inlisting during the Korean Conflict before his 18th birthday and served his community “Midway” through being a firefighter and active with the church the last 45 years. He will always be remembered and continue to guide towards doing what’s RIGHT.
