  1. I will be showing this to a new crew that starts tomorrow morning. The first paid crew in our District. Some of us busted our rears to get out and get the word to the people to try to get the tax passed to make what is happening happen. I’ve been in the fire service for 28 years, and from my first day on the job all I wanted to do is get better at doing the job. Even the 12 years I spent as an inspector my heart and soul was with the crews. It chapped my rear to see firefighters sitting around resting on the stack of papers they received from classes but not putting those skills to use on the drill ground. As an instructor I saw the “one and done” mentality of newbies that think they got it with one attempt and they don’t got it.

I’m with you on this one. We are supposed to be firefighters and sitting around the station talking it isn’t good enough for the people we serve. We have to be out there training, even before I saw this tonight, as the chief I decided the crews at my house are going to train and train like we mean it. The paid crews are going to be training hard and training like someone’s life depends on it because it does. The t-shirt, got paper, show up when they feel like it, on calls, well that’s the next mountain at my house.

Thanks for the gut check and I will see you at COBC 2019.
