A 46-year-old man has been rushed to Hamilton General after getting his arm caught in a pasta-making machine at Catering by Luigi on Lancing Drive near Nebo Road.

Paramedics and firefighters were on the scene for just over an hour-and-a-half trying to extricate the worker and treating him before he could be taken to hospital.

Fire department spokesperson Dave Christopher said firefighters assisted the paramedics by removing the machinery where the man’s arm was caught. “We’re taking apart the equipment under the paramedics’ direction,” he said earlier this afternoon.

The emergency call came in to paramedics and firefighters at about 2 p.m.

Paramedics say the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his right arm.

Catering by Luigi has a 2,200-square-foot kitchen with bakery and modern other equipment designed to prepare food in large volumes daily for its off premise catering, according to the business’s website.
