ARAPAHOE COUNTY – Firefighters rescued 14 people from the Woodhaven Apartments during a two-alarm fire Tuesday morning. One person that was rescued is in critical condition and another rescued victim was treated for smoke inhalation, according to Cunningham Fire Protection District Fire Chief Jerry Rhodes.

Rhodes said everyone else is uninjured.

The fire, which was contained to just one apartment, is out, but several apartment homes were damaged by smoke, the fire chief said. He said he was proud of his firefighters for knocking down the fire in just 11 minutes.

A stairwell in one part of the building was lost. Rhodes said residents that live in that side of the building would not be able to return to their homes Tuesday morning.

Just after 3:30 a.m., dispatchers put a call out to several agencies to investigate a fire and evacuate residents of the Woodhaven apartments in the 2400 block of South Quebec Street.

Firefighters immediately called for a second alarm when they arrived because of smoke on the second floor.

Firefighters from several other agencies including the Aurora Fire Department and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office assisted extinguishing the fire and evacuating residents.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Rhodes said he believes at least 30 people are displaced due to this fire.
