LeGear Hose Dreams, LeGear Nozzle Dreams, Isakson Three Inch Key Hose

Several years ago Dennis LeGear took a deep dive into fire hose construction after discovering mathematical discrepancies first utilizing Hazen-Williams equation calculator, and then with calipers to measure the internal and external diameters of hose. The result was a paper he published known as “Hose Dreams” that has been linked below.

This project was followed up with nozzle dreams, and spurred the development of the 1-3/16 smooth bore tip. You can also find this published paper. Hose and Nozzles are a system that must be designed as a couple to achieve maximum efficiency and impact.

The first part of this promotional video from Key Hose was filmed at the Hilton Pensacola Beach during HROC. The prototype hose was tested by industry leading fire instructors and has evolved into what is now known and distributed by Key Hose Tru-ID 2.25.

The 3" Green Line People Before Water

Escambia Fire Key Hose People Before Water 75' 3" Supply Line

After arriving at the scene of a fire in Escambia County Florida, the driver operator of the first due unit will roll out their 75-foot, 3-inch supply line anticipating the arrival direction of the next due company to obtain a second booster tank of water as

seen in the working fire video below with a civilian rescue. This line is 3″ made by Key Hose, Big-10 model. In the photos above an apartment building struck by lightning had a fire extend into three apartments and the attic space. The companies on scene deployed the 3″ Green 75-foot supply line. The entire fire event was knocked down and mopped up utilizing only the tank water on the scene.

Why 75-feet? This length of hose is easy for one person to deploy. The length of the hose is long enough to leave space for ground ladders to exit the rear of a Quint apparatus, or leave room between to engines for an aerial device to gain optimal positioning even if they are later arriving to the scene. The line can also be utilized to supply a Fire Department Connection (FDC) or supply a Rapid Attack Monitor (RAM). The Green 75′ line can also be utilized in one or more lengths depending on desired flow to supply an aerial device as seen in the video below.
