Rescues in Hampton, VA

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Firefighters rescued two people from a burning home in Hampton early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials say the victims called 911 around 1 a.m. reporting fire coming from the first floor of their two-story duplex.

When fire crews arrived on the scene they found heavy flames shooting from the home and a person hanging out of one of the windows.

“It was huge flames, it’s like in a movie,” Chris Brock, who witnessed the fire, told 10 On Your Side’s Rico Bush. Brock said firefighters recovered a man from upstairs but was not sure if he was conscious or not. “He seemed to be breathing,” Brock said.

Medics took two people from the home to the hospital but their conditions were not immediately available.

The family who lived on the first floor of the duplex managed to escape the flames unharmed. The Red Cross was called to assist them.
