Portland Fire Bureau firefighters on Tuesday morning rescued a man who fell while working on a tower at a grain elevator terminal.

Rescuers responded at 10:33 a.m. to a high-angle rope rescue call at the Temco terminal in the 800 block of North River Street. It is in an industrial area along the Willamette River in North Portland.

A man in his mid-30s fell when the basket that was supporting him failed. Portland Fire Bureau spokesman Terry Foster said the basket fell into the Willamette River. A safety harness swung the worker back inside the tower, where he injured his arm. The man was suspended about 40-feet from the ground.

Rescue workers maneuvered the man from tower placed him in an awaiting ambulance. He was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital for treatment.

The worker’s condition is unknown. Foster described the man’s injuries as non-life-threatening.
