Firefighters from the VCFD and VFD responded to Matilija Canyon last Saturday evening to rescue a man 40 feet down a steep embankment. Members of the VCFD Urban Search & Rescue team provided technical assistance for the difficult rescue. The patient was treated where he was found, then carefully placed into a specialized litter that allowed firefighters to secure him. He was then hoisted to the roadway where he was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
