Rapid Attack Monitors

What are the pros and cons of portable monitors? Do you preconnect or leave in compartment? Do you have mounted on the exterior and where? What have you found works best? What type of tip do you leave on it? What is the longest you can stretch and still flow? Do you use 2.5" or 3" hose?

  1. Ours are preconnected at 100ft. using Ponns 3″ giving us the max 500gpm. They are good for large water flow, but one person is needed to man the RAM due to the automatic vertical raise when unmanned. Unlike a typical ground monitor that you can set elevation at a fixed angle, the RAM requires someone to keep the nozzle at the correct angle for effective placement of the stream. If you are using this device due to limited man power it is not an advantage. If you need up to 500gpm and have the resources to man it then great. It does give the ability to shutdown flow at the nozzle which most monitors do not have. This is better for a more dynamic attack when frequent repositioning is needed. When large flow is needed and we are 2 man crews I’ve opted to pull a 2.5″ with 1-1/4″tip. We use 2.5″ Ponns on these preconnects.

for. You’ve ended my four day lengthy hunt! God Bless you man. Have a great day.
