Well in that case, I would personally put water on the exposure instead of the fire building if the fire building is a complete loss and the exposure is capable of being saved with minimal damage. It doesnt hurt to cool the exposure down first then direct your attack on the fire building. We all know staffing is lacking everywhere and not knowing when your 2nd due is coming or how much manpower your going to get, so multitasking is very key.

when the original building is too large or the fire is beyond control of your resources (handlines, GPM capability, manpower, etc)…as well as when the building is “unsalvageable” and the adjacent building(s) are jeopardized

9 times out of ten, if exposure is likely to catch fire protect exposure first…unless a rescue needs to be made. Major life hazard such as an ACLF or high occupancy load might change the tactic. Most of the time a good rule of thunb to follow for prioritizing is:
1. Rescue
2. Exposures
3. Fire
